Born September 11, 1950; New York City; married (1989); one child. Education: public schools in New York City,

graduating from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1968; BS, 1972, Polytechnic University (formerly Brooklyn Poly),

summa cum laude; MS, 1972, Polytechnic University (research mentor - G. E. Wilson, Jr., thesis committee

members – H. Morawitz, Anita Lewin); Ph.D., University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1977,

(Ph.D. mentor – Ken L. Rinehart, Jr., thesis committee members – Harold Snyder and Robert M. Coates).
