130 Fall 2000 ArcView Assignment #1 (15 points) Due Date: Tuesday - November 7, 2000 Using the data provided with the ArcView GIS 3.2 software, develop an ArcView project that includes a view displaying three themes (the states and lakes of the USA). Your project file should be forwarded as a file attachment to the instructor (shayyaw@morrisville.edu) via e-mail. The subject of the e-mail should read "ArcView Assignment#1". Your project file (having an extension ".apr") should bear your last name followed by the number 1 as a project name (e.g., my project will be named shayya1). The project should include one view (View1) showing three themes: "States.shp" (in the background), "Lakes.shp" (second layer), and "Roads.shp" (in the foreground) themes. Note that the order in which themes are drawn on a view is based on the order they appear in the "The Table of Contents" of the view. The theme at the top of the "Table of Contents" is drawn on top of those below it, and so on down the list. Themes that usually belong in the foreground of the view (e.g., "Roads.shp" theme) should therefore be kept at the top of the "Table of Contents". Themes that form the background of the view (e.g., "States.shp") should be at the bottom. To change the order a theme is drawn in, drag the theme up or down in the "Table of Contents" (by clicking on the button corresponding to the theme and moving the cursor up or down in the "Table of Contents" while holding the left button of the mouse). When you drop the theme in its new position, the view will automatically redraw in the new order. Note When you add a theme to a view it is automatically placed at the top of the "Table of Contents". If you create several themes at once, they are all placed at the top of the Table of Contents, in descending (Z-A) alphabetical order. To receive credit for this assignment, please forward the project to the instructor on or before the stated deadline (i.e., 7 November 2000). If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the instructor at Ext.# 6526, or stop by his office (134 Marshall Hall). |
