I decided that as long as I
was working here it was a good time in my life to finish my education. Six
years later, I'm still not exactly sure what finish means. First it
meant an Associate's Degree. Then it meant a Bachelor's Degree. Then it
meant a Master's Degree, which I hope to complete by August 2004. Now I'm
thinking a PhD..........or maybe a second MA.
After
completing my last semester here and while working on my BS at Empire State
College, I decided that two jobs, three children and school wasn't enough. I
took another part-time job as the Alumni Phonathon Manager.
Through my experience as the Phonathon Manager, I learned that not only is
working with students enjoyable, it can also be challenging! During my last
season there were a few students who graciously made sure that my management
skills were well honed! They know who they are......
For eight weeks each
year for a couple of years, I was the local school tax receiver, where I met
many wonderful, fascinating people.......most of whom waited until the very
last day possible to pay their taxes!
As I progressed to the graduate
student level at Binghamton University, I decided it was time to give up a
few activities. So, today I am working at Butcher Library, substitute
teaching at Morrisville Eaton Central Schools, and completing my MA in
Social Science with a concentration in Student Affairs and Diversity. I also
serve on the Alumni Board of Directors here at MSC.
My area of interest
is in Student Retention through a holistic approach. I'm currently working
on a research project with the Dean of Students at Vassar College in
Poughkeepsie, New York in which we are examining the quality of life and
inclusiveness of a diverse student population.
Other areas of interest
are Learning Communities, Democratic Learning, and Career Development.
